影响人们对口音刻板印象的不仅是地域偏见 ， 对不同地区口音的不同看法还可能有政治原因 。随着大英帝国从权力巅峰走向衰落 ， 美国接替了它的位置 。英国在这一体系中成为了边缘 ， 同时又是一个让美国自我观照的他者 。诚然 ， 在以美国人为中心的美剧 *** 中 ， 作为边缘群体的英国人固然饰演着反派角色 ， 但是还有比英国人更加边缘的存在——观众可以注意到 ， 饰演洛基哥哥雷神托尔的演员克里斯·海姆斯沃斯（Chris Hemsworth）是澳大利亚演员 ， 但他却不能说澳大利亚口音的英语 ， 反而要说英式英语 。当然 ， 雷神并不是反派——据他自己透露 ， 这是因为长期以来好莱坞的天神角色都是英国演员扮演 ， 而且他们往往说着莎剧语言 ， 因此漫威世界里的神——包括雷神托尔、洛基在内都有莎剧腔调 。Gidney等人则认为 ， 动画中一些反派人物使用德国、东欧和俄罗斯口音 ， 也可能反映了美国在二战和冷战期间对这些国家的敌意 。在过去的几十年里 ， 虽然整个政治氛围变了 ， 但是影视作品中如此使用口音的趋势依然存在 。
